From 80s heartthrob to writing about loneliness and showing up: Andrew McCarthy was the guest on Dear Nina this week!
Okay, the big news around here is that I had Andrew McCarthy on episode 189 of Dear Nina: Conversations About Friendship!
If you’re of a certain age, then Andrew was the heartthrob in what seemed liked every major movie when we were growing up.

But did you know Andrew has managed to keep up a career in film, TV, and directing while also being an acclaimed writer? He’s a widely published travel writer, and his newest book, Who Needs Friends: An Unscientific Examination of Male Friendship Across America, chronicles his recent road trip to reconnect with friends after his 20-something son said to him, “You don’t really have any friends, do you, Dad?”

TV: Started The Madison with Michelle Pfeiffer on Paramount. What an amazing cast and gorgeous setting. There’s one episode left of Paradise. It’s going to be hard to wait for season three! I suffered through episode 8 of Love Story. It was truly terrible. And were the last few episodes of Shrinking off or was it just me?
RECIPE: Busy thinking about what I’m making for the seder, which is mostly the stuff I always make: tangy brisket (from the first Smitten Kitchen book), matza ball soup (with the chicken stock from Barefoot Contessa Parties but the boxed matza ball mix), and then variations of roasted veggies, salads, dips, and potatoes—none of which I’ve picked yet.
SHOPPING: I’m going to be honest that I do not understand the Jellycat craze, but I bought my 17-year-old this egg on toast and this cinnamon roll and she was VERY happy.
