Hello, Hello, Hello! My name is Ayodeji and I welcome you back to school. It feels wonderful to be back to The Home of The Wonderful. I am happy to be back and ready to conquer a new term as a masters student studying International Accounting and Financial Management in the Norwich Business School.
Many of us are just arriving back on campus and have started catching up with friends and planning our semester activities. While planning out your term, it is important you include activities that will be beneficial for your career. We do not start building a career when we land our first job. We started building our careers the moment we decided we wanted to attend University to study one course or the other. All the activities we engage in during that time to the moment we land our first job has helped to either inform us or taught us skills that will be beneficial to our career.
Career Central has a lot of events and workshops that would be happening throughout the term. It does not matter if you already have your career all mapped out in front of you or are clueless about what you want to do in the future, Career Central has something for you.
Here are some of the categories of events lined up for the term:
Career Central Skills Events: At these events, you will get knowledge on getting Internships and Summer Experience, Getting the most out of LinkedIn, Finding Job Opportunities, Arts and Humanities masters Coaching Course, How to Explore your career options which I am looking forward to and many more available here.
Career Central Drop-Ins: If you are interested in getting information about job vacancies (both local and global), chatting with career advisors about the job application process and the UEA Enterprise Award, bookings are available here
Employer Talks and Events: The events for this term will bring many employers on campus to talk to students about what the types of jobs they have and how to go about getting them. You can access all these on here.
Start Your Own Business: These events specially cater to students who are interested in starting their own business. If you have an idea already and are looking for support on how to go about it, these events are you. If you do not have a business idea yet, there are events that will help you to start thinking about what you can also do. Also available here.
School Based events also happening this term include the School of Development Employability week. I attended the Norwich Business School employability events last term, and they were informative, employers came and spoke about their firms and what they had to offer. It was also interesting to see some former UEA students now staff at these companies speak at these events about their experiences. These and more are available on the Events page of the Career Central Website.
Connect with Careers events will also be running from 21st to 23rd February. These events, in addition to the ones listed above, will help current students and recent graduates know how Career Central can help them during their time in Uni and beyond.
You can also get on the cost of living hub set up by the University to support students through the ongoing cost of living crisis. Support available include financial advice and support, guide to getting the best value energy suppliers, jobs, food and drinks, essential toiletries available at the Student Information Zone and more.
