small easy habits that will improve your productivity

Are you feeling like you are not progressing towards any of your life goals? Or are you feeling like you are repeating the same routine day after day with nothing to show for it? This can be a sign that your daily routine is not working properly or effectively for you. Motivational speakers often tell us to implement big habits such as doing yoga for 2 hours daily. But let's be honest, it gets overwhelming sometimes. I'd like to meditate for two hours and read three books within two weeks. But I'm sorry. I only have 24 hours and a lot of other things to do. That's why, over the last few years, I've started implementing tiny habits in my daily routine that has made me more productive.

Old habits can be difficult to change. But you can adopt some new essential habits that can make you more productive. Since we are what we repeatedly do, this habit, if adopted, will improve your quality of life, and in return, you get to enjoy a happier and less stressed life.

Here are 7 small habits that can help you to become highly productive.

1. Write 3 things you are grateful for

writing things you are grateful for helps you to have a positive attitude

Writing down the things you are grateful for will help you to practice gratitude. It allows you to reflect on the things that are happening in your life, which will help you to shift your perspective. Research shows that practising gratitude will help you sleep better at night, lower your stress level, and improve social relationships. Getting into the habit of writing 3 things you are grateful for in your gratitude journal will create nothing but positive change in your life.

2. Focus on minor details

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the thought of working on a massive amount of tasks and how much time it's going to take? Productivity is not about the huge amount of work you can do in an hour. Having a dozen of scheduling apps doesn't increase your productivity. Productivity is about the result you produce. If you are not increasing the result in the things that matter, you are not increasing your productivity. You are just doing more busy work more efficiently. While it's essential to focus on the process, don't overlook the results. Make sure your results are moving towards your goals.

3. Do a minute of exercise first thing in the morning.

doing exercises in the morning makes you more productive

Even if you have a busy schedule, you can set off at least one minute to exercise. I'm not telling you to do a one-hour full workout. Just do some simple exercises. You can do 25 pushups and 35 seconds of plank workouts. Getting some exercise first thing in the morning helps to get the blood circulating. It takes you out of the morning funk.  If you want a complete workout in the morning, that's also perfect. But if you don't have 30 minutes to spend on a full workout, you can try the one-minute exercise. It will help you to be more productive throughout the day.

4. Ask yourself if what you're doing is worth your time.

We do many actions that don't matter. Many actions, to be precise, are not worth our time. We finish them and move on, only to reflect on how much time we wasted on them a week later. If you had one month to live, would you rather spend a couple of hours on the couch watching Netflix or working toward a goal you've always wanted to achieve?

5. If a task takes less than 3 minutes, do it right away.

Doing a task that takes you less than 3 minutes help to decrease the number of activities you have on your to-do list. Finishing this task makes you feel fulfilled and more productive. For the tasks that take 5 minutes, write them down on paper and hang them in front of you, then do them within the next one hour. It helps you from procrastinating for days.

6. Turn off unnecessary notifications.

Start by turning off notifications for an hour. But if you can even do more hours, do it. It takes roughly 25 minutes to regain focus, even if you only glanced at a notification for a second. Turning notification off helps you to accomplish a lot more. You can form a habit of looking at your notifications after you have finished your task.

7. Implement the 80/20 principle.

The 80/20 principle was first observed in the 1800s by an economist named Wilfredo Pareto. He noted that 80% of the land was earned by 20% of the population. Are you wondering if this principle can be applied to your life and how? Well, it has been found that 80% of your success will just come from 20% of your work. This means that 80% of what you do will be unimportant or irrelevant to your success. The main point of applying the 80/20 principle into your life is that you identify that 20% of the things that you do result in success. An easy way of adopting the 20% is by generating a to-do list with the most important activity at the top and the least important at the bottom. Finally, cross 80% of your task from the bottom so that you are only left with the 20% at the top. By first focusing on the 20%, you will improve your productivity and efficiency. It helps you to focus on the task that will yield you success.

Bonus tip: read every day for 15 minutes.

reading productivity books helps you to remain more focus and organized

I love reading books on productivity and this has really improved my quality of life. I'm able to manage my time and focus on things that really matter.one of my favorite book is; make time by Jake Knapp and John Zeratsky. If you are planning to improve on time management and productivity, I highly recommend this book.

It takes 21 days for a habit to become a routine. There are some habits that are extremely difficult to implement, and others are small and simple to implement. I love them both. But the small habits are easier to implement in our busy life. If you incorporate these microscopic habits into your daily routine, they will help you be more productive and improve the quality of your life. You can start by implementing 2 habits, and with time you can implement all of them.
