Hi fellow Caribbean traveller!
I've visited Grenada almost a dozen times, and trust me, this Caribbean island is pure magic. After just one trip, I was even tempted to drop everything and move to Grenada!
From the stunning beaches to the rich culture, Grenada has a way of stealing your heart.
And guess what? You don't need to spend a fortune (although these dreamy resorts are worth the splurge) to experience all it has to offer!
Here are 10 insider tips to help you save some cash while soaking up the island's beauty and charm.
Because an amazing trip doesn't have to come with a big price tag!
- Stay Smart: Check out our list of budget-friendly hotels and apartments in Grenada. They're all walking distance to Grand Anse, the island's best beach. Sure, they might not be as inexpensive as those in Mexico or Guatemala, but they're a steal compared to other Caribbean islands. Plus, the longer you stay, the lower your daily rate—so why not extend that vacay?
- Eat Local, Eat Well: Grenadian food is fresh, delicious, and easy on the wallet. Grab a hearty lunch at Andy's Soup House for just $25 EC (around $9 USD), or savour fiery jerk chicken (along with fabulous ocean views) at Cummin' Up Beach Shack on Grand Anse Beach. And Happy Hour (4:30- 6 pm T-F) at Sand Bar Grenada is always a good idea.
- Market Magic: Head to St. George's Market Square for a true Grenadian experience. Gawk at the bustling fruit and vegetable stalls, sample street food and sip a rum punch or fresh coconut water. Established in 1791 and open Fridays & Saturdays, it's a feast for the senses.
- Annandale Falls Adventure: Just $3 EC ($1.75 USD) scores you entrance to these stunning waterfalls. Bring your bathing suit and take a dip in the refreshing pool at the base. Trust me, it's unforgettable!
- Belmont Estate Bliss: Skip the guided tour and explore the grounds of this historic cocoa plantation on your own—no charge for wandering!
- Carenage Charm: Take a leisurely stroll along the Carenage, a scenic inlet in St. George's. The views of the harbour, local life and historic architecture -- a colourful mix of Georgian, French colonial and Caribbean -- are picture-perfect.
- Explore the World of Chocolate: The House of Chocolate Museum in St. George's offers a fascinating glimpse into the island's cocoa heritage. It features exhibits on the chocolate-making process from bean to bar. Grind some cocoa, sample artisanal chocolate (free!) and purchase hand-crafted products from Grenada's leading chocolate makers.
- Step Back in Time at Grenada National Museum: You can now visit Grenada's national museum for free and explore the island's rich history from indigenous cultures to the spice trade. The buildings themselves are notable with some dating back to the 1700s.
- Get Fit with the Hashers: Want a unique experience that's part of a worldwide movement? Join the Grenada Hash House Harriers, a local running group a fun (and free!) run through the jungle. Afterward, enjoy a plate of tasty oil down with a chilled Carib beer. Food's extra, but the run's on the house!
- Ride Like a Local: Skip the pricey taxis and hop on the local transportation for just $1 USD. These shared mini-vans run regularly along prescheduled routes. Our fave -- route #1 -- runs from Grand Anse Beach to the bus terminal. They're a fun, budget-friendly way to get around the island.
These tips will help you save money and dive deep into Grenada's natural beauty, culture, and history.
Your unforgettable adventure awaits—start planning now!
