Goodbye 2023
I was going to make rosti with mushrooms, accompanied by a nice bottle of red. Do you know what rosti is? If you look it up online, you will find that rosti is mainly a potato dish, quite similar to hashbrowns, but I've modified the recipe somewhat. In addition to potatoes, my rosti includes lots of onion and bacon. You have to admit, it looks delicious and believe me, it is.
At midnight we were going to open a bottle of champagne.
Tomorrow, Dieter and I were going to play the New Year's Day ten-pin bowling tournament.
Instead, it's up to Dieter to cook a simple meal, accompanied by Sprite. We'll still open a bottle of champagne at midnight, and while Dieter will still be bowling the tournament, I'm not. I'm sick.
While other people will dress up in their fineries heading for a party, going to a family gathering, or about to welcome guests into their home, I'm sitting in my pyjamas, and I'm not going anywhere. My head feels like a balloon, my nose is running, I cough, and I have zero energy. That this had to happen today of all days.
Then again, maybe this rather unfortunate ending of the year is a sign of a great few months to come. Let's see …
Winning the Lotto jackpot
Shooting a 300 in bowling
Having my manuscript accepted by a literary agent
Stranger things have happened. A new year is upon us, twelve months full of possibilities. Who knows what's going to happen.
One of my favourite sayings comes from the movie 'The Imitation Game' and goes as follows ...
Sometimes it is the people who no one imagines anything of who do the things that no one can imagine.
