Are you a first or second-year undergraduate? The Careers Service have just launched our new Career Mentoring programme to provide you with invaluable career coaching and support!
As part of the programme, successful students will be matched with an industry professional to help support you with your career planning, decision making, and preparing for your next steps after university.
What will I gain through the programme?
Your mentor will guide you towards making informed career decisions, help you navigate finding and applying for opportunities, and can give you their tips to help you succeed. They will share their own personal career journey, provide insights into both their current and previous roles, and highlight the decisions they have made and the steps they've taken to get to where they are today.
What will I discuss with my mentor?
You can discuss a whole range of topics to help guide you, including:
- Exploring your career options
- Overcoming any barriers in your career planning
- Start building your professional network through direct contact with your mentor
- Develop the skills and confidence you need to succeed in your career planning
- Improve your employability, CV, and interviews
- Get a competitive edge over other candidates
How will I be matched with a mentor?
As part of your registration, you'll be asked questions about what you're looking for in a mentor, what occupation you're interested in, and what skills you are looking to develop. We will then try and match you with an appropriate mentor who is a good fit for what you're looking for.
How long will the programme last?
This year's programme will run from February to June 2024. If your application is successful, you will be required to attend or watch a one-hour introductory training session during week commencing Monday, 29 January 2024 before being invited to register on our Mentorloop platform and be matched with a mentor.
Interested in applying for a mentor? Applications are open until Monday, 22 January 2024 for first-year and second-year undergraduates only.
