[New post] Sister power lives on

The other day, a friend told me about a silly argument she had recently had with her sister. When she went on to tell me that she was inspired to quickly resolve the issue when she thought of me and my sister, I couldn't help feeling flattered, as well as very touched.
One of the things I am most proud of is the relationship I had with my beautiful sister Carolyn; and even though we haven't seen each other since she passed away almost four years ago, the bond we shared, complete with laughter, tears, and sometimes complications, is never far from my mind and heart.
There were many times over the years when, before we were about to face a challenge or difficult situation together, or other times for no specific reason at all, as if we were superheroes, that my sister and I used to touch what we considered to be our friendship rings together and say "Sisters activate!"
Although I used to tell her that "as long as we stick together, there's nothing we can't do," I think what we were about as sisters will go down as our greatest achievement together. We may not have had as much time together on earth as I had thought we would, but the strength and power of our exceptional sisterhood continues to remain alive.
I am not going to sugar coat things and claim that my entire relationship with my sister existed without us ever having a disagreement. However, the difference between two sisters like us and friends who might unfortunately actually never speak to each other again after a falling out or silly misunderstanding, was that my sister and I quickly resolved things between us and even sometimes laughed and started fresh the next day or moved on without ever having to even discuss certain matters ever again.
I don't mean to brag (okay, maybe I do just a little) about the fact that my sister and I still remain a shining example to others, even after all this time. Even though I miss her so much it sometimes physically hurts, I am also comforted when I am reminded of how the two of us being sisters really stood for something special. The legacy we were able to create, however small, is one of the things I am most grateful for in my life. No matter what, I will always know that I did at least one right thing in this world.
When I hear of sisters who merely tolerate one another, or worse still, downright despise each other, it makes me sad. Girlfriends can be wonderful but as far as I'm concerned, as I've said before, if you're lucky enough to have a sister, you'll never have a better friend.
As we all know, no one lives forever and letting anger come between sisters might be something to regret after it is too late to fix things. Sisters need each other, in good times and bad. Life's too short to waste time harboring resentment against someone that means so much.
So, the next time your sister gets on your nerves – and let's not kid ourselves, she undoubtedly will on occasion - just think of me and my sister, and how, no matter how much time goes by the power of our love will never die.
