This position is in the Spanish unit of the Documents and Publishing Division of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic Commission (ECLAC) in Santiago. The reviewers work under the general supervision of the director of the document publishing department and the direct supervision of the chief of the Spanish unit.
To the extent of the delegated authority, the amendment is responsible for the following obligations:
• Translate and edit texts and revise translated and edited documents on a self-revision basis for a wide range of subjects covered by the United Nations.
• Draft reports act as presis writers on a self-revision basis and as monitors for the precis writer team at ECLAC headquarters or international conferences.
• Advise and assist translators / precis writers and editors inside and outside the company, and explain unit procedures and practices, terminology, and a wide range of subjects as needed.
• Participate in setting terminology criteria.
• Assist and represent the unit's chief as needed.
• Perform other related duties as needed.
work experience
Requires at least 5 years of experience in translation, precis writing, self-revision, and use of related computer software, electronic tools, and databases.
Requires proofreading and editing experience.
Solid experience in translating and revising intermediate-level technical texts in the field of
Economic, financial and social issues are needed.
Three years of relevant experience within the United Nations is desirable.
