WANT TO HELP STUDENTS ON THEIR OWN CAREER PATHS? THE CAREERS SERVICE AT NEWCASTLE UNIVERSITY ARE LOOKING FOR CV ADVISERS, AND YOU COULD BE THE PERFECT FIT!
CV advisers give 1:1 help with CVs, covering letters and LinkedIn profiles through appointments, e-mail and at Careers Service events. The role will last from mid-June 2022 to mid-June 2023, and you can expect to be working a minimum of four hours a week during term-time (although there is an expectation you will have a flexible approach during busier months such as October and November).
As a CV adviser, you can expect to…
- Provide feedback on CVs, covering letters and LinkedIn profiles to students and graduates of all degrees and stages (training will be given to help with this!)
- Refer students/graduates to information advisers or careers consultants as is needed
- Give administrative support, as well as student input into project ideas and occasionally cover the Careers Service reception
If this sounds like the ideal role for you, then the Careers Service need you to…
- Have excellent interpersonal skills to be able to build confidence and motivate others
- Be customer focused with experience of customer service
- Have excellent written English and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to use office IT systems, databases and the internet
And although the following aren't essential, the Careers Service would also love someone who has…
- Previous experience of giving 1:1 feedback in the workplace
- Teamwork skills
- Awareness of good practice when it comes to CVs, covering letters and LinkedIn profiles
Students from all disciplines are welcome to apply. The Careers Service even recommend you book an appointment with a CV advisor before applying, to really get a feel for the role… and get feedback on your own application!
Applications close on the 2rd of May, and for more information (including key training and interview dates), click here. Best of luck from all of us at the blog!
