The Friendship Edit: September Finds
Links and little joys related to making, keeping, and celebrating friends.
I was a guest on coach Elizabeth Sherman’s podcast, Total Health in Midlife. We had a very frank conversation about making and keeping friends in midlife. She asked great questions!
Amy Poehler spoke to her friend Zarna Garg on Good Hang and it was so good that I immediately listened to Zarna’s memoir, which I devoured in three days.
READING: I finished Sunrise on the Reapingby Suzanne Collins. It was so depressing and dark, but I will always keep up on the Hunger Games books. This was the prequel about Haymitch that takes place after the previous prequel about Snow. I’m currently listening to Are You Mad at Me?by Meg Josephson and reading an early release of Joyride by Susan Orlean.
TV: I’m keeping up on The Morning Show. I got my husband to start watching Your Friends and Neighbors with me but he doesn’t really like it that much so I may have to continue on my own. I finished The Summer I Turned Pretty and it ended as I hoped it would. (No spoilers!)
COOKING: It’s all Jewish holiday cooking around here. For falls holidays and Shabbats I often make the brisket from the first Smitten Kitchen cookbook and the caramel apple kugel from Adeena Sussman’s cookbook, Shabbat. There’s chicken in there with onions that I also really like in this season. We’re making lots of round challahs, of course.
I’ve made every brisket out there. The recipe in this book is THE ONE and it’s not on her site.
