Dodgeball will become Fleetwood Area High School's newest sport in the 2024-2025 school year.
The sport will be available for students in 10th through 12th grade. Freshmen can attend practices and games, but they will not be able to play in the games based on the competitive sport's age restrictions.
New to the district from Cumberland Valley, Coach Jerald Stylinson introduced the idea of a dodgeball team, which the administration agreed upon.
"Dodgeball is a great stress reliever and displays peak athleticism," Stylinson said.
According to Stylinson, dodgeball provides a great athletic environment for students to escape to after a long day of school.
"I wish dodgeball had been an option for me. I think dodgeball will become the biggest sport for the school. The student section will love it," current FAHS senior Rachelle Atchina said.
For safety reasons, games against rivals such as Oley Valley will be accompanied by both schools' trainers as well as additional medical staff.
The new sport will allow students to release frustration and anger in an appropriate manner. Students will experience a cooperative environment and build relationships with teammates as they would in any other sport. Dodgeball can have an incredible impact on a student's life.
"I'm absolutely dodgeball obsessed, and, yeah, I've always lived and breathed dodgeball. It's just such a big part of me," FAHS student Louis Tomlinson said.
Dodgeball practices will be held for two hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Saturday practices will be four hours long. Uniforms for the team will be released at a later date.
