Do you feel comfortable sharing your HONEST music taste?

I used to have this friend, more than a decade ago, and we had this joke: "if anything ever happens to me, promise me you will clean all the content of my mp3 player. NOBODY can know what is on there". 🤭

And still today, I feel reluctant to tell people what type of music I like to listen to.

Your appearance and behaviour might give some sort of indication, but it it isn't always true.

My other half, who is a very mellow person, does prefer that type of music. But occasionally, I'd hear him listen to death metal or very "female empowerment " songs. It makes me laugh.

The truth is… we can all be of a certain personality, but we all have our moods.

Music can make us happy, powerful, calm down and get us over a heart ache.

A big body builder could be blasting Celine Dion all night and the shy girl could be doing the same to black sabbath.

I was born in 1990, so I grew up with the 90s and 00s music.

My parents, however, were born in the 60s in former Yugoslavia. And while my dad was familiar with the Beetles and Queen, my mum solely grew up with Yugoslavian folk music.

And even when we lived in Western Europe, the former Yugoslavian radio stations were always on.

As an adult, I continued moving from country to country and meeting people from all over the world along the way. Obviously, we shared each others cultural perspective and music is a big part of that.  On top of that, I loved going to my South American music classes as well.

Now, you can only imagine what my playlist looks like. Anything from kpop to Eurovision Songfestival songs, to 90s hits, oldies goldies  and current hits.

Some are sophisticated. Some are cringy. Some are socially acceptable. But all of them will fit my mood or activity at some point.

And while I am aware that probably most of us have different beats on our playlist, my experiences have always showed me that people will judge me on mine. So I am still reluctant to share it with just anyone.

What can I say….All these small minded, judging people… you're missing out on awesome music 😉
