Christmas presents for pets

Christmas presents for pets

Sure, why not

Christmas is over and done with and I imagine that quite a few of us are broke or spend more than we intended to. But hey, it was worth it, right, seeing those happy faces. Did you get a little something for your cat or dog?

Some might laugh, but I'm sure others will nod their heads. And rightfully so. If we buy presents for family and friends, why not a little something for our pets, they are family too.

My lot got their Christmas present a few weeks ago … a cat house.

I saw it advertised on Facebook, thought it a good idea, and ordered it. When it arrived, I didn't quite know how to put it together, but my son figured it out. When the house was assembled and placed on the floor, we waited for the cats' reaction … nothing.

One by one they walked on by without giving the house a second look. So, I took matters into my own hands. I introduced them to the house and yes, they checked things out … some more interested than others.

Holly … thanks but no thanks
Halley … finally, some privacy
Greyson … can I fit through the door
Nic … it's okay
Sonsie … nice but I'll stick to my basket

Then Christmas came around and the packages that thus far been under the tree were opened. The cats showed no interest at all in the presents, but the paper … oh yeah, they had a ball with that. They ran over it, they kicked at it, they jumped on it and all but disappeared under it. It was a case of, where is Nic? Ah, there he is.

After they had their fun, the wrapping paper was scooped up, stuffed into boxes, and put aside to be thrown away. Not so fast, Nic (always the instigator) seemed to say, we cats aren't done with it.  He pulled the boxes on their side and, assisted by Greyson, proceeded to scratch some of the paper out.

When Nic and his associates were done with the paper and curled up to sleep, I once again scooped up the paper and put it aside. The following night, the same scenario … Nic pulled the boxes on their side and invited the others for some wrapping paper fun. I didn't mind. If this was what made them happy, let them enjoy themselves.

The following day when Amazon dropped off a box. I opened the box, took out the contents and dropped the box on the floor. Unlike the house that we bought for them, the box immediately had everyone's attention. I didn't have to introduce any of the cats to the box or encourage them to use it. Halley took one look at it, climbed inside and announced … this one's mine.
