If you are a university student and your graduation date is approaching, your panic mode for job search and career considerations is probably on!

Panicking at this phase is very common and normal for most students, especially if you haven't made plans or started considering your career choices. So, don't worry and try to get some help as soon as possible. That's what your CareerCentral team is here for, after all.

Here are some tips and steps to explore your choices before and after graduation.

Browse the CareerCentral website

CareerCentral's website is loaded with endless resources, tips, vacancies, and events tailored to students who are about to graduate and those who already have and are still considering their career choices. Access is available to you for up to three years after graduation.

Register to attend events

Whether you are looking to obtain more skills, improve your CV, gain more experience, or get advice and feedback from experienced people, CareerCentral has lined up various events and workshops to help you with these. If you have missed some events like GradFair and WeCan, you can still access some of their resources online and catch up on what you missed.

Here are some of the events and opportunities you should not miss:

CV Amnesty 13th - 24th June: submit your CV online to get valuable feedback from CareerCentral's professional career advisors. Find out more here.

GradReady Accelerator 20th - 21st June: a two-day training and development course where you can obtain guidance, mentorship and skills from professionals who have been right where you are. Book your place here.

Use the Career Advisers' support

Suppose you are struggling and confused about where to start. In that case, there is support available to you at CareerCentral with professional advisers who could talk to you, guide you, and provide you with suggestions and tips to kickstart your career journey. Depending on your needs, you can book 1-1 appointments with the advisers that vary from 15 minutes to 1 hour. Book your appointment here.

Make use of digital resources available online

If you did not get the chance to attend the events or book an appointment with advisers, you could always use the invaluable digital resources available on the CareerCentral website.

You can use the CV builder to improve your CV, use LinkedIn Learning, which is available for FREE, and explore job vacancies hand-picked by CareerCentral advisers for you. You can find these and more here.

To sum up, here are some of the recommended steps you should undertake in this phase:

  • Decide what you want to do: if you wish to go for postgraduate studies, find a grad job, or start your own business
  • Prepare your CV
  • Send it to CareerCentral advisers and book an appointment to get guidance
  • If you are considering postgraduate studies, do your research, find the relevant resources, and book an appointment with an advisor to explore your option
  • Highlight the skills and experiences you need to boost your CV
  • Apply for relevant workshops, training, and volunteering opportunities to increase your employment chances
  • If you haven't already, sign up on LinkedIn and explore relevant opportunities
  • Keep an eye on Grad events at your university and sign up for those that interest you
