Forefront Books and the Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives are teaming up to form Frederick Douglass Books, a publishing imprint meant to "establish a pathway for Black and Brown authors" into the publishing industry, the two organizations announced in a press release last week.

The imprint will mainly publish nonfiction, including self-help, memoir, history, and business, according to the announcement. Its first release will be Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave, Douglass' landmark autobiography that was first published in 1845.

"It is my hope that the Frederick Douglass Books imprint will carry on his legacy of education, activism, and liberation commentary and provide a platform for Black and Brown authors to publish their own narratives," Kenneth B. Morris, Jr., co-founder and president of the Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives, said.
