Want to help shape the future SELLL and our community? Maybe you're a whizz at organising socials, or you're looking for a new skill to add to your CV? Applications to join the committees of EngSoc and Creative Writing Societies are now open, LingSoc can be revived, and the SELLL Student Voice Committee needs a new board too!
Helping to run a society looks so impressive to employers, as you'll have learnt numerous skills along the way; teamwork, time management, events management, and organisation – just to name a few! EngSoc have worked hard this year to ensure the SELLL community is a welcoming one, using their socials and events to appeal to students in other schools, whilst CreSoc have kept their team of scribblers inspired and ready to write all year long. Whether you're a social butterfly, or looking to spread your wings, running a society is such a great way to get involved at university, learn more, and meet new people.
But perhaps you'd rather look at how SELLL is run, and utilise your experience as a student to create a meaningful impact in the more university-side of the community? Student Voice Committee is the right choice for you then, where you'll help the school to run more smoothly. Whether you apply to be Chair or would prefer the role of Student Rep to help bring student issues to life, there's so much to learn from a role on SVC.
But if none of these roles sound particularly appealing, and you'd rather start something new within SELLL, then listen up! In previous years, the school ran a linguistics society, and it's something we'd love to get going again. Whilst establishing a new(ish) society might seem daunting, the process is actually very easy (learn about the process by clicking here) and you'll have the help and backing of faculty to support you throughout. If you're interested in this, please email Stacy Gillis and we'll get the ball rolling!
